The Wichí or Wenhayek community, from northern Argentina and southern Bolivia, already has a digital dictionary, thanks to the hard work of different researchers and specialists in this language of at least 32,000 speakers. The situation of its use is delicate if promotional measures are not taken to prevent its disappearance, according to experts.

In the Argentine provinces of Formosa, Chaco and Salta, as well as the department of Tarija in Bolivia, the diversity and breadth of this language allowed cultural resistance. And it is that Wichí also suffered persecution and violence - like dozens of other autochthonous languages - in the processes of hispanicization in Latin America.

The Wichí language is considered part of the Gran Chaco linguistic area. It is said that it is an area because languages of different linguistic families share characteristics of their grammars due to the bilingualism practiced by their speakers for many years.
